SEQ Bulletin – February 2022

President’s Report

2021 proved to be another difficult year for rogaining throughout much of Australia with Covid enforced border closures and numerous lockdowns forcing the cancellation of many events.

We were fortunate in Queensland and able to conduct all of our planned events except for the 24 hour rogaine championships which were scheduled for the Tenterfield region in NSW. Border closures forced its postponement and this event is now scheduled for 23rd-24th July 2022.

I would like to thank all our organisers and their team of volunteers who managed to conduct rogaines during the year, the uncertainty of border restrictions and Covid compliance rules making their work more challenging.

Results from NavLight scored events during the year were analysed to find our Rogainer of the Year.

For 2021 the female winner was Nicole Walker and the male winner was Liam St Pierre.

Full results can be found here.

Our calendar for 2022 is nearly complete with event organisers allocated – but we do need volunteers to assist those organisers and there are numerous positions to be filled whether it be map preparation, logistics, hanging controls, helping out at admin on the day, safety patrols or other duties.

Remember, if we don’t have volunteers for events, we don’t have events so your help is certainly needed and appreciated.

See you at the next rogaine,

Michael Schafer

Notice of Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The AGM this year will be held immediately after the end of the Pumicestone Paddlegaine on 13th February. Please stick around after the event to take part – it won’t take much of your time. If you have any interest in helping out on the Committee in any capacity please do get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.

Next Event – Pumicestone Paddlegaine – 13 Feb

It’s under two weeks until the 2022 rogaine season opener! Always a popular event, entries sold out fast and a wait list is available.

Entries Open – PreRogueative – 26-27 Feb

The QRA is excited to present The PreRogueative – a multi-discipline rogaine incorporating hiking, mountain biking and packrafting (optional). This event is specially designed for teams that are training for the Raid 100, but all teams with sufficient experience are invited to enter. It is a replacement for the ‘upside down’ event in the QRA calendar, but those who love the foot-only format will be able to do the event as a 12-hour upside-down foot rogaine if desired.

Entries are now open! For more details, and some stunning photos to whet your appetite, see the event page here.
