SEQ Bulletin – October 2018

Mooloolaba Metrogaine – Saturday 20 October – Last Chance to Enter!
Entries are closing on Wednesday this week, so get in quick! The Metrogaine is always a fun day out, so don’t miss out. The 2018 metrogaine will be held at Mooloolaba and surrounding suburbs, including beautiful beach tracks, bush reserves, council parks, suburban streets and hidden laneways. Easy navigation, suitable for beginners and families, yet also challenging for the experienced.
This year we’ve decided to time the event a bit later in the day, so you can enjoy the cooler hours of the evening and enjoy a post-event meal (included in your entry fee). Make a weekend of it and stay the Saturday night up on the beautiful Sunny Coast.
Enter here. For more information contact Adam Woods.

BNE CBD Photo Hunt – Sunday 11 November
Looking for something a bit different? This event is a novelty event intended to test your powers of observation as well as encourage you to look up and down and all around you as you explore the Brisbane CBD streets and laneways. So come along to discover what we have around us and what you may walk past everyday but never notice!
You will be handed a map and a bunch of photos of objects around the CBD—your challenge will be to find as many of the objects as you can within 3 hours. The locations will NOT be marked on your map—you need to find them. To prove that you have found an object, you will need to answer a question at the location AND record the grid reference of that location from your map.
Objects to locate will encompass Architecture, Artwork, History, Oddities.
The event will be suitable for all ages and fitness levels—it will be suitable for wheelchairs, prams and families.
Teams can walk as far as they want—or come back before 3 hours if they want—or run and try to find them all. It is completely up to each team how they want to participate.
All event income will be donated to the Cancer Council as part of fundraising efforts by the ‘Lost in Space’ Shitbox Rally Team.
More information and online entry is here.

Rogue Raid 100 – April 2019
Course setting for the Raid 100 is continuing. Teams are in for a spectacular and challenging route throughout the border country. Teams that have entered are reminded that early bird payments close by 30 November 2018 as per the payment schedule before the price rise (payments can be made here). In the mean time, check out a snap shot of the course from a recent scouting trip here.

Draft 2019 Calendar
We have now added most of our planned 2019 events to the Event Calendar. Get those dates in your diary now, and also have a think about which ones you might like to volunteer to help organise. It is just as much fun (or perhaps even more fun!) to help out at an event as it is to compete.

SEQ Rogainer of the Year Competition
The current standings in the 2018 ROTY competition are on the QRA website. Gary Sutherland and Christine Perry are still in the lead, and the Metrogaine on 20 October is your last chance this year to improve your score, so make sure you enter that one.

Individual Rogaining Results
You can look up any individual’s historical results in QRA events since 2010 and all of the ARCs going back to 1979:

Call for Volunteers
The rogaining association and all QRA events are run entirely by volunteers. We actually need all QRA members to volunteer some time each year to sustain the sport. If you are interested in organising or assisting in running a rogaine please get in touch, it’s a fantastic opportunity to explore Queensland and practice your nav all while giving back to the organisation.
The draft Rogaining Queensland Event Calendar for 2019 is available at The volunteer page on the website has a description of each of the event volunteer roles. Please send an email to to put your hand up. It’s a lot of fun, you learn heaps about rogaining and we have many experienced hands to support you. If you have any interest in helping on the Committee in any way please also get in touch via

Volunteer Rewards Policy
Volunteers at QRA or Raid Adventures events who have contributed at least a full day to an event and have given up their opportunity to compete are offered a $50 credit towards entry in a QRA or Raid Adventures event of their choosing within the following 12 months. A list of people who have earned rewards is on the website. The reward can be claimed by ticking the appropriate box when entering an event.

Rogaining around the world…
We got a great turnout from New Zealand at the ARC (26 entrants) so it would be great if we can get a good number of Aussies going over to the NZ Rogaining Champs on 24-25 November 2018:

The 2019 WRC will be held in Spain. The 2020 WRC will be held in the Sierra Nevada range in California. From 2020 onwards, the World Rogaining Championships will be held every second year.

…and across Australia…
The 2019 Australasian Rogaining Champs will be held in Tasmania in the stunning Bay of Fires region on 9-10 November 2019. This will be an event you must not miss. Put it in your calendar now!
A list of upcoming interstate rogaines can be found at

Rogaining Stories
We’re always keen to hear from QRA members about your rogaining or other outdoor experiences. Please share your stories by posting on the wall of the official QRA Facebook page, or join the Adventure Racing and Rogaining Qld group. Don’t forget to ‘like’ our Facebook page. If you would like to share some news, send it to and we will post it.

Hope to see you at a QRA event, soon.
