The Samford Scamper Metrogaine – Saturday 20th April
Embark on your next adventure with the Samford Scamper Rogaine! Get ready to sprint or stroll through the picturesque landscapes of Samford Valley. Whether you’re a seasoned navigator or a first-time adventurer, the Samford Scamper Rogaine promises a fun experience filled with strategic challenges, breathtaking (they are not that amazing but you will be puffed) views, and the joy of being outdoors as the weather cools down. Get ready to scamper, strategise, and socialise with events for both seasoned rogainers and spirited newcomers alike! In teams of 2 to 5 people set out to locate checkpoints using a map without street names, answering multiple-choice questions at each checkpoint. Both the 3 and 6 hour events will be followed by a BBQ. Entries are now open.

Regular Dawn Nav Events
Keen for some regular rogaines around the suburbs of Brisbane? Our Friday morning 'Dawn Nav' runs are held every week, you can follow the events on the Facebook page or by signing up for the mailing list.
This coming week, there is a 1 hour run at 6am on Friday morning and also a 90-minute 'Bonus Round' run at 6:30am on Sunday morning at Robelle Domain (enjoy a swim afterwards!)

Bayside Paddlegaine Washup

It was a bit wild! Congratulations to everyone who had a go, and apologies to those who had trouble with the tricky conditions and submerged flags. We hope you still had fun! You can check out photos and the official results here.

AGM
The Queensland Rogaine Association held our AGM on 10th February at the conclusion of the Paddlegaine. We adopted a new constitution which brought it up to date, you can read it here (thanks go to Fiona Crossley for all her work on that). Thanks and congratulations go to our President Sue Clarke, Secretary Fiona Crossley and Treasurer Nick Clark who are all continuing in their roles, and doing a great job of keeping the club running smoothly. There are still vacancies on the Committee though, so get in touch if you can help.

Planning Day, 2024 QRA Event Calendar and Volunteering
Thanks to all of you who contributed to the QRA Planning Day earlier this month. We were able to make progress on plans for most of the events this year. But we still need many more helpers! The QRA committee has set out the 2024 Calendar, and it's up on the website, here. If you can help with any of the preparations for any of these events please email volunteer@qldrogaine.asn.au. Please remember, QRA is completely run by its volunteer members – by entering a QRA event you become a member of the association, and we ask that each member makes a contribution to at least one event during the year. In many cases it won’t prevent you from competing. It’s a lot of fun, you learn heaps about rogaining and we have many experienced hands to support you if you are a little unsure, so give it a go.

2023 and 2024 Australian Intervarsity Rogaining Championships
QRA and the NAMSF sponsored the travel of two UQ Mountain Club teams to compete at the 2023 Australian Intervarsity Rogaining Championships. Check out their event report! In 2024 the ARC in WA in September is also the Australian Intervarsity Rogaining Championships, and the NAMSF will again be offering generous funding to cover the travel costs for one university team from each state and territory to enable them to compete. Contact president@qldrogaine.asn.au for more information.

Wildfire Raid and Rogue Raid
Entries are open in the first two 'multi-dispcipline rogaine' events of the year. These events are always very popular and will likely sell out, so get in quick!

The 2024 Australasian Rogaining Championships

The 2024 Australasian Rogaine Championships will be hosted in WA on the weekend of 7th and 8th September 2024.

Where is the Mysterious Traveller?  A mask, an old logging village, a Melburnian forester, and ochre springs.  We may need to navigate complex river valleys (150m a.s.l. to 300m a.s.l.).  There may be a few pines, but we are mostly in stunning Jarrah – Marri – Blackbutt forest.  We leave the open Nannup farmlands of 2016 far behind. We have a very easy trip here – less than 3hrs southish of Perth and less than 1hr Bunbury.  For all travellers, far, near, mysterious or not, the Event Bus will take you on a magical tour from the airport to the event via a replenishing town.  The Setting and Vetting team look forward to showing you some topographical mysteries!

February update – a revision to the location – now 3hrs south of Perth. More information is available here:

National Rogaining Calendar
Why not incorporate a rogaine into your next interstate trip? It's a great way to explore the country! All of the rogaines scheduled around Australia this year can be found in the National Calendar: https://www.rogaining.org.au/events

Reminder: new rogaining category definitions in 2024
From this year onwards, age categories are determined by year of birth rather than date of birth. For example, if you and all of your teammates have turned 55 (or older) by the end of 2024, you will qualify for Supervets for all of the events in 2024 even if you don't turn 55 until late in the year. There is also a change to the age requirement for the Veterans category – all team members must be 45 years old or older on 31st December of the year of the event rather than 40 as before. The full rules with the new category definitions can be found here: https://rogaine.asn.au/documents/rules-and-standards/rules-of-rogaining-and-technical-regulations-2023

2027 World Rogaining Championships Discussion
A meeting was held on 29th January to discuss possible bids for the 2027 World Rogaining Championships from Australia and New Zealand. The Australian rogaining clubs will investigate the possibility of submitting a joint bid supporting SARA to host the 2027 event in the Flinders Ranges, which is superb rogaining country. If you would like to make a contribution to preparations for this bid, please get in touch.

Hope to see you at a rogaine soon!

On behalf of your rogaining committee,
Paul Guard
