A Plea for Volunteers
The good news is that we have a great location lined up for our premier 24 hour event which is scheduled to be held in early July. It’s one of the best areas for rogaining in SE Qld, and the landholders are very keen to welcome us back (and they serve up great food!).
The bad news is that we haven’t identified an organising team! I am happy to be a mentor for those who do want to step up to help make sure this event goes ahead. If we can’t identify a team of volunteers in the next couple of weeks, we’ll have to cancel the event. Please contact me at paulguard@gmail.com if you are keen to be part of the team. If you’re not sure if you have the skills or knowledge to help, then check out the next item in this newsletter…
Rogaine Organising Workshop – 4th June
Interested in helping to put together a rogaine event, but you’re not sure what’s involved? We’re holding a workshop on Sunday afternoon, 4th June, to help those who haven’t yet volunteered at a rogaine event understand what goes into organising a rogaine. We’re keen to have a mix of people with different experience levels, so regardless of how much you already know, please consider coming along to share what you know. Registration for this informal event is free, and we’ll provide some snacks and refreshments for participants.
The Glen Rock Lucky Lantana Rogaine – 17th June – Entries Open
The Qld Rogaine Association invites you to our annual 8hr Rogaine event. Celebrate the start of winter with an energetic day out with friends or family while sharpening up your navigation and route planning skills. A hearty meal at the end of the event is included in your entry fee.
Remember, the rogaine format allows for all ages and abilities, from novice to elite, and you can stay out in course as long or as little as you want (from 1 to 8 hours).
Although there is a lot of lantana on the course due to recent wet seasons, your kind course setters have made sure that you’ll be able to find a lucky way around most of it! It is a very scenic course with great views from the slopes above the valley.
The start / finish is the Casuarina Day Use area at Glen Rock State Forest, south of Gatton. Camping is not included in your entry fee, but camping is available by making your own booking through the QPWS booking system. It is a very nice camping area so please do take advantage of the opportunity to camp out overnight.
QRA Minirogaine Results
Congrats to all participants in the mini rogaine held in April. We hope you had a great time. Big thanks to Fiona, Michael, Steve, Sue and all of the other volunteers that made the event happen.
The results are on the QRA website: https://qldrogaine.asn.au/results/
Raid Adventures Event Updates
Escape Raid
Entries are still open in the Escape Raid (27-28 May), but places are filling fast. It’s a fun weekend of lakeside camping with three events to choose from – do one, two or all three events over two days. Entries close fully on Monday 22 May, 2023.
Wildfire Raid and Rogue Raid
The Wildfire and Rogue Raid events were hugely successful and a lot of fun was had. Check out results and photos here.
2023 QRA Event Calendar and Volunteering
Here is the event calendar for 2023 – which events will we see you at? Please remember, QRA is completely run by its volunteer members – by entering a QRA event you become a member of the association, and we ask that each member makes a contribution to at least one event during the year. In many cases it won’t prevent you from competing. It’s a lot of fun, you learn heaps about rogaining and we have many experienced hands to support you if you are a little unsure, so give it a go.
- 8 July – 15/24hr Rogaine – *event organiser and volunteers needed*
- 2 Sept – Cyclegaine – *volunteers needed*
- 28 Oct – Metrogaine
Australian Rogaining Champs (ARC2023) – Goobang NP, NSW
NSW Rogaining Association will host the next Australian Rogaining Championship on 30 September / 1 October 2023. The venue is Goobang National Park between Parkes and Orange. The event will also serve as the 2023 Intervarsity Championships.
Remember, the Australian Champs are open to everyone! You don’t need to be an elite to enter. It’s just a really fun high quality event, open to all.
There is an event website with some information on the transport options, and entries will open in June.
World Rogaining Champs (WRC2023) – California
The World Rogaining Champs are in the USA on 29-30 July 2023. If you are planning to travel to the event, the organisers have provided some information on accommodation options here. The event website is here.
Australasian Rogaining Champs – NZ
Every five years or so, the Australasian Champs is held in beautiful New Zealand. This is one such year! The 2023 Australasian Rogaining Champs will be held on 16-17 December near Tekapo on the South Island of NZ.
The photos look superb, and the course setter has promised it is some of the best rogaining terrain he’s found in NZ. Again, this event is open to everyone, so don’t miss out. Entries are now open.
Untamed Border Run – 24 June
Not quite a rogaine, but since it’s being organised by regular QRA volunteers Gav, Susie and Craig, it’s bound to be a great event!
Check it out and enter here: untamedborderrun.com
Hope to see you at a rogaine soon.
On behalf of your rogaining committee,
Paul Guard
